Charity - The Kilworth Challange
In 2006 The FlowerPot Men came 3rd overall and this year with a few last
minute changes to the team they came 5th out of nearly 40 teams and won
the over 40's category once again. The weather was very wet and all the
teams made an amazing effort to complete all the challenges. In 2008 The
FlowerPot Men are going for a hat tric and maybe win the event as well.
This year the 40 teams collected over ~71,000 which is an incredible
achievement . So please give generously and remember it is all going to
Childrens charities.
What is the Kilworth Challenge
The Kilworth Challenge is a competition team event run over 2 days
in and around North Kilworth, Leicestershire. Similar events run by
many companies are aimed at team building. This event is for the fun
and enjoyment of the competitors whilst raising money to support organisations
whose main aims are to provide outdoor activities for those who through
disability or other ways are less fortunate. Some of the money raised
also supports many other local organisations.
This year it is hoped that a full compliment of 36 teams of 4 people
will take part. During the 2-day period each team will walk a course
of some 30 miles and at intervals of approximately every mile be
expected to perform a Team Challenge. Challenges range in difficulty
and type from physical obstacle courses and yomps to mentally taxing
word games and puzzles.
All Challenges are graded in difficulty and awarded a rating of 1-4
with Sponsorship being the most important. The winning team of a
challenge rated 2 would receive 72 points, second place 70 points,
third 68 etc. The overall winning team of the Kilworth Challenge
is the team with most points after all events are completed. Additional
prizes for most sponsorship, over 40's team winners, women team winners
etc., are also awarded. All teams receive tee shirts, certificates
and results of the event.
Who benefits from the Kilworth Challenge?
Each year a Charity or group of Charities is chosen to be the main
beneficiaries of funds raised by the Kilworth Challenge. We particularly
like to support charities, which give pleasure to handicapped youngsters
in the pursuit of outdoor activities. Money raised is targeted at providing
specific items of equipment rather than contributing to organisational
running costs. Groups that have benefited in the past include Calvert
Trust, Riding for the Disabled, Dukes Barn and Great Ormund Street
Children's hospital. Local charities and good causes in the area
receive the remainder of the money raised. The entrance fee teams pay
to take part in the Kilworth Challenge and money raised by the organisers
funds the event so that maximum use can be made of the sponsorship
money collected by the teams.
